Refugee Protection Division (RPD)
The Refugee Protection Division (RPD) of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) is responsible for deciding whether you can obtain refugee and person-in-need status.
We help you to:
1. Submit a request at any point of entry (airport, seaport, land border)
If your asylum application is admissible by the decision-making officer, the application will be referred to the RPD for decision.
If your request is not referred, we will advise you on your options.
If your asylum application has been referred to the SPR:
You will need to complete the Basis of Asylum Application form (FDA form) no later than 15 days after the date on which your asylum application was referred.
2. Submit an application to an Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada office
You will need to complete the Basis of Asylum Application form (FDA form) no later than 15 days after the date on which your asylum application was referred.
3. Present your case to the RPD
Gather and present relevant evidence and prepare for your hearing.
Be well accompanied and supported during your hearing.
Reopen your application if it was deemed abandoned because you failed to meet the deadlines.
